HAMLETS TRAINING CENTRE – NEWS UPDATE

UKVI SELT Update: Expired BRP/BRC Acceptance Extended Until 31 December 2026

Hamlets Training Centre has received an official communication from Trinity College London regarding an important update issued in relation to UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Secure English Language Test (SELT) arrangements.

Key Update

UKVI has extended the concession allowing SELT candidates to use expired Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) and Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs) when booking a SELT examination.

Under the previous arrangement, candidates were permitted to use a BRP or BRC that expired on or after 31 December 2024, valid for up to 18 months after the document’s expiry date. This arrangement has now been updated.

With immediate effect, candidates may now use an expired BRP or BRC for SELT booking purposes, provided that the document expired on or after 31 December 2024 and is used on or before 31 December 2026.

Purpose of the Update

This extension supports the UK’s ongoing transition from physical immigration documents to the digital eVisa system. It is designed to ensure that applicants continue to access SELT services without disruption during this transition period.

Guidance for Candidates

Candidates are reminded that:

  • The same identity document used for booking must be presented on the test day.
  • All other SELT identification requirements remain unchanged.
  • Candidates should ensure they follow the latest instructions provided by their SELT test centre.

Institutional Action

Hamlets Training Centre will continue to update internal guidance and advise learners and applicants accordingly to ensure compliance with the latest UKVI requirements.

Disclaimer

This communication is based on information received from Trinity College London. While every effort is made to ensure accuracy, candidates and stakeholders are strongly advised to verify the latest official guidance directly with UKVI and approved SELT providers before making any decisions or bookings.
