You must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level A1 in Speaking and Listening for example:
- Further Leave to Remain
- a Tier 2 (Sportsperson) visa
- a Representative of an Overseas Business visa

A2 SELT – GESE Grade 3
You must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level A2 in Speaking and Listening for example:
- Further Leave to Remain (visa extension), required two and a half years after passing an A1 test.
UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires non-EEA nationals to pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in speaking and listening at level A2 after two and a half years in the UK, in order to qualify for further leave to remain on the five-year partner or parent route to settlement.
Trinity’s GESE Grade 3 exam = CEFR A2.

B1 SELT – English Test Course for Skilled Worker, Health and Care worker and Student visa
It is mandatory to pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level B1 in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening for a:
- Skilled Worker visa
- Health and Care Worker visa
- Student visa (although UKVI requires a B1 test, some institutions require B2 — please check with your sponsor)
Course length: 4 weeks (3 hours per week)

Trinity's Secure English Language Test Centres in UK
Trinity provides Home Office approved Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) across the UK. These tests are approved for applications to UKVI for visas, British Citizenship and Leave to Remain:Graded Examinations in Spoken English (GESE) - A1, A2 and B1 tests
Integrated Skills in English (ISE) - B1, B2 and C1 tests
There are ten Trinity SELT centres in the UK, providing exam sessions throughout the week. You can prepare for a Trinity SELT at one of these course providers.
