What is a B1 ISE I English Test Course?
A B1 English language test course is designed to help candidates prepare for the Secure English Language Test (SELT), which is required for various UK visa applications.
B1 refers to an intermediate level of English proficiency, as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). A person at the B1 level can:
- Understand conversations and written texts related to work, school, and personal topics.
- Connect phrases in a simple way when discussing travel, family, or personal interests.
- Write basic texts on familiar topics such as hobbies, family, and work.
- Clearly describe experiences, events, dreams, ambitions, and opinions.
Trinity College London offers two types of SELT tests:
- GESE (Graded Examinations in Spoken English) – Focuses on speaking and listening.
- ISE (Integrated Skills in English) – Assesses reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Hamlets Training Centre is an approved provider offering intensive courses to help candidates prepare for the ISE I test.
What are B1 ISE I English Tests Used For?
B1 ISE I English tests assess a person’s English proficiency level, which is often required for UK visa applications. The English language requirement depends on the visa type, so it is advisable to check the UK Government website for specific requirements.
You must pass a B1 English language test if applying for:
- Skilled Worker visa
- Health and Care Worker visa
- Scale-up Worker visa
- Student visa (UKVI requires B1, but some institutions may require B2 – check with your sponsor)
